About GMYPBC
The Club was initially founded as the "Greenock Model Yacht Club" in 1878. In those days, the model yachts were of very traditional design and their direction was controlled by vane steering gear.

The 1970s saw the introduction of radio control equipment which enabled yacht skippers to both steer their boats and to set the angle of the sails to the wind.  This made the sport of model yacht racing more like full sized yacht racing.

In 1990, a scale boat section was formed and the Club changed its name to "Greenock Model Yacht Club and Power Boat Club (gmypbc)".

Our Clubhouse is situated at the north east corner of the Cowdenknowes Reservoir at Murdieston Dam.   Access may be obtained from Murdieston Street via a narrow lane running along the foot of the embankment on the north side of the reservoir.

Cowdenknowes Reservoir offers a wide expanse of relatively deep water with plenty of space for racing radios yachts.   For those members who take part in the scale section, there is a jetty in front of the clubhouse with nearby obstacles which permits members to readily demonstrate their boat handling abilities.

The Club is always keen to welcome visitors from other clubs and also members of the public who might be interested to try out sailing the radio yachts or scale models.
